About this position
Are you interested in advanced power electronics and wireless power transfer for future electric mobility? Chalmers is hiring 2 Doctoral candidates within the EU MSCA doctoral network BiWPT on bidirectional wireless power transfer and vehicle-grid integration (REF 2026-0377).
About us
The Division of Electric Power Engineering researches broadly in electric power technology. In Electrical Machines and Power Electronics (~25 people, mostly PhD students), directions include electrical machines, traction inverters, high-frequency power electronics and charging, electric drive systems, and battery energy storage.
About the research project
BiWPT (MSCA doctoral network) trains experts for bidirectional WPT systems for electric mobility and vehicle-grid integration. Chalmers will hire 2 DCs for two objectives:
- Design, implementation, and control of compact, cost-effective wireless power transfer converters for robust bidirectional operation—topologies, materials, and components for high efficiency and scalability up to 500 kW; advanced control under varying coupling and battery states; experimental validation of efficiency, reliability, and fault tolerance.
- Integration and deployment strategies for high-power WPT in heavy-duty vehicles—architectures, mechanical interfaces, digital-twin models for real-time validation, and sustainability/recyclability assessments guiding design optimization.
DCs also join other training-related research activities, planned academic and industrial secondments, BiWPT training/dissemination, course credits (45–60), and limited teaching.
Who we are looking for
Mandatory: Master's with 120 credits in electrical engineering with power electronics and control as major; comprehensive knowledge of hardware and control of power electronics converters and vehicle chargers; Simulink, PLECS, and LT-Spice skills; prototyping and experimental test experience; MSCA mobility rule—must NOT have resided or carried out main activity in Sweden for more than 12 months in the 3 years prior to recruitment.
Strengthening: electromagnetics, electrical machines, motor control, PCB/CAD; power/distribution systems, energy storage, onboard drive systems; strong collaboration skills with colleagues and industry.
What you will do
- Research toward the BiWPT objectives above; publish; prepare a doctoral thesis
- Courses (45–60 credits) and teaching assistant duties (up to 20% overall; limited to 5% in the first three years for these EU DCs)
- Secondments and network progress reporting
Contract terms
- Fully funded from start
- Fixed-term four years, with possible extension up to one more year based on teaching (total employment up to 5 years)
- Starting salary 35,725 SEK per month
- Physical presence required; valid residence permit by study start
