About this position

Job description

The use of biomass as an energy material and industrial feedstock is well developed in Sweden. This puts the country in an excellent position for the deployment of negative emission technologies based on capture, utilization and storage of bioCO2. The current position is part of an Interregional EU project within the Baltic region (Interreg Baltic) that aims at exploring and developing value chains for bioCO2, with the ultimate aim to replace fossil carbon with bio-carbon in certain industrial sectors. KTH will work closely with different biogas producer in the Baltic region and design and develop processes for separation and upgrading of bioCO2. The work includes field measurements at the biogas plant, lab experiments to estimate unknown model parameters, and theoretical in-silico process design calculations and cost-estimations. As a post-doc researcher in this project, you will be working on the junction between academic research and industrial development, interact with partners and stakeholders from various fields, and develop hands-on experience on industrial deployment of sustainable process technologies.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree in Chemical or Process Engineering or a closely related discipline. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent scientific research, including experimental work, data analysis, and publication of results in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Strong knowledge of chemical engineering fundamentals, especially transport phenomena, separation processes, and reaction engineering, combined with ability to apply theoretical principles to solve practical engineering challenges.
  • Experience with process simulation, numerical modelling, or data-driven process analysis.
  • Good knowledge of inorganic chemistry and analytical methods for analysis of CO2 in solvents and gas phases.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and supervision of undergraduate and Master students.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, as it is required in the daily work.

As a post-doctoral researcher, you are willing to contribute to a collaborative research environment; communicates effectively with researchers, industrial partners, and other stakeholders; support students in their learning and conduct of research and interact with colleagues within the research group; and show curiosity, flexibility, and a willingness to learn new methods and techniques

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
  • Experience with experimental or theoretical process development in the area of carbon capture and utilization.
  • Experience working with industrial research projects or collaborations with external stakeholders.
  • Experience preparing project reports or technical deliverables for externally funded research projects.
  • Communicating skills in Swedish in both written and oral form is a plus, as it is required in the daily work.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.

About the employment

The position offered is for, at the most, three years.

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
