About us
The group develops methods for modelling, simulation, monitoring and safety analysis of current and next-generation nuclear reactors, within Subatomic, High Energy and Plasma Physics at Physics and Astronomy.
About the research project
Further develop and validate machine-learning approaches trained on simulated reactor data to identify and characterize perturbations from neutron detector signals for water-cooled SMRs, within the ANItA competence centre (academia–industry nuclear collaboration in Sweden).
What you will do
- Develop computationally efficient anomaly detection from neutron detector signals
- Improve robustness across operating conditions using high-fidelity simulations
- Advance transparency/explainability of ML for safety-critical nuclear applications
- Collaborate with industrial and academic partners; publish and present
- Supervise master’s and/or Doctoral students; possibility to teach
Contract terms
Temporary full-time employment for two years with possibility of one-year extension. Physical presence required; valid residence permit by start date.

Requirements
Mandatory
- Doctoral degree in reactor physics or equivalent foreign degree (met no later than employment decision)
- Strong written and verbal English
- Experience in nuclear reactor simulation software and reactor dynamics
- Social and collaboration skills as per the requirements profile
Strengthening
- Doctoral degree within the last three years prior to deadline (highly meritorious)
- Using/developing deterministic nuclear simulation software
- Machine learning experience
