About us

The position is hosted by the Maritime Environmental Sciences division at the Department of Environmental and Energy Sciences. Research provides long-term, often global, perspectives on future renewable fuels for transport using techno-economic assessments, life cycle assessment, and cost-minimizing models. The team collaborates across Chalmers and with international academic and industry partners.

About the research project

Focus is hydrogen within the HyLo collaboration (hydrogen trucks and refuelling infrastructure) and the TechForH2 competence centre. The aim is to assess carbon footprint and carry out techno-economic comparison of hydrogen supply-chain pathways—with special focus on infrastructure and refuelling stations for trucks and aircraft—and to better understand impacts from hydrogen leakages and hydrogen’s role in cost-effective, energy-efficient, sustainable transport.

What you will do

  • Perform systems studies on the potential role of hydrogen with focus on economic and environmental aspects
  • Develop existing and new energy system models and/or perform life cycle assessment
  • Contribute to training doctoral students, supervise MSc students; may include teaching
  • Plan and organize work independently in collaboration with group members and project partners; communicate findings in English in writing and orally

Contract terms

Temporary full-time employment for two years with the possibility of a one-year extension. Physical presence required throughout; a valid residence permit must be presented by the start date.

Requirements

Mandatory

  • Doctoral degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in a relevant field such as environmental science, environmental economy, applied mathematics, or energy technology, with specialization in energy systems analysis, energy modelling, LCA or energy transitions (met no later than employment decision)
  • Strong written and verbal English
  • Proven experience with data analysis and programming (e.g. GAMS, Matlab, Python, R, or Brightway)
  • Motivated independent researcher with analytical skills and interest in transport-sector transition and interdisciplinary systems work

Strengthening

  • Doctoral degree obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline (highly meritorious)
  • Knowledge of alternative transport fuels
