Job description
The position focuses on experimental and computational fracture mechanics. The experimental work involves developing new test geometries to study void nucleation under a wide range of stress states, using a combination of mechanical testing and advanced X-ray computed tomography (CT) in both interrupted and in situ test setups. Initial studies will be carried out using in-house microCT facilities and later extended to synchrotron experiments in collaboration with national and international partners. The experimental results will be used to develop improved models for void nucleation within continuum damage mechanics frameworks, suitable for implementation in finite element simulations of material failure. These models will be applied to study the ductile-to-brittle transition in HSLA steels.

- A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
- In addition to your scientific skills and pedagogical ability, a relevant doctoral thesis, international experience and proficiency in English as it is needed in the daily work
- We are seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in experimental and computational fracture mechanics. The candidate is expected to work independently, disseminate their work at international conferences and in (high impact) journals, show scientific rigor and integrity, collaborate with others with multi-disciplinary backgrounds, support PhD students, have a professional approach and analyze and work with complex challenges.
Preferred qualifications
- A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
- Experience in mechanical testing and X-ray computed tomography (CT) at the micro- and nanoscale is an advantage
- Good knowledge in computational nonlinear material mechanics
- Teaching abilities
- Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality

About the employment
The position offered is for, at the most, two years.
A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
