A lightweight weekly cadence

Pick two short sessions per week: one to triage new matches, one to advance applications already in draft. Endless daily scrolling usually lowers application quality.

  • Monday: review alert emails and shortlist 3–5 roles.
  • Mid-week: deep-read official ads and request references if needed.
  • Friday: submit or consciously drop stale drafts.

Use RJE tools as filters, not as the application

Filter by PhD, postdoc, faculty, country, and field. Save searches for combinations you actually want. Enable alerts so deadlines do not depend on memory. Then leave the aggregator and finish on the employer site.

Protect your attention

Skip internal-only posts if you are not eligible. Skip teaching-only roles if you want lab time. When a deadline is within 72 hours and the pack is heavy, decide fast—late incomplete applications rarely win.
