Medical Radiation Physics is a multidisciplinary field where physics and radiation applications intersect with biology and medicine, with the human being at the center. Our activities encompass research and education in both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, as well as their medical applications in radiation therapy, diagnostic radiology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and nuclear medicine. Our research covers a broad spectrum, ranging from fundamental scientific studies to clinically applied research conducted in close collaboration with healthcare providers. The department is responsible for the five-year Medical Physics program, a professional degree regulated by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare, which qualifies graduates to work as licensed medical physicists.

The Nuclear Medicine Physics Research Group primarily focuses on radiation dose calculations for treatments involving radiopharmaceuticals. The overall aim is to understand the relationship between radiation dose and tumor response, as well as the risk of adverse effects in patients undergoing oncological treatment, and to enable dosimetry-guided therapy. As part of this work, the research group develops advanced methods for image-based quantification of radiopharmaceutical concentrations in organs and tumors. The group maintains an extensive international network and is represented in international medical physics organizations. Software developed by the group is currently used by researchers worldwide.

Type of employment: Fixed-term position, 6 years, in accordance with Chapter 4, Section 12a of the Higher Education Ordinance, with the opportunity for promotion to senior lecturer.
