About this position
Join us at Chalmers University of Technology to pioneer the next generation of batteries through advanced 3D printing and additive manufacturing. Be part of an innovative research team (4 Professors in battery, additive manufacturing, sustainable product design, and AI) exploring new ways to manufacture batteries with greater design flexibility, improved performance, and more sustainable production.
About us
At the Department of Mechanical Engineering , we unite the power of technology, people, and society to drive the transition toward a sustainable future. Through research, education, and collaboration, we create solutions that connect materials to mobility, ideas to impact – shaping a resilient and sustainable world.
The Division of Materials and Manufacture conducts research across the full value chain, from materials design and processing to advanced manufacturing and characterisation, with a strong emphasis on metallic systems. We combine interdisciplinary expertise with close industry collaboration to develop sustainable materials and manufacturing technologies.
About the research project
What if you could 3D-print a battery? This doctoral project explores advanced additive manufacturing technologies to develop new approaches for battery fabrication, enabling greater design flexibility and new possibilities for integrating battery materials and structures. You will investigate how materials, printing processes and electrode design can be combined to create functional battery components and demonstrate their potential in next-generation energy storage. The research aims to advance innovative and more sustainable battery manufacturing.
