About this position
Do you want to investigate whether AI can learn how different people experience the same multisensory world?
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to develop and evaluate personal generative models of multisensory perception. The project is supported by a Villum Experiment grant. You will use controlled XR environments to study how individuals combine sound, vision, and touch under uncertainty, and test whether these models can predict responses to new situations and inform more accessible interactions.
Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be to test whether an individual’s patterns of multisensory integration can be inferred from repeated interactions in XR. You will design experiments, develop computational models, and compare personal models with population-level and preference-based approaches.
- Design XR experiments that vary sensory reliability, timing, and agreement between modalities.
- Collect and analyse behavioural, gaze, and physiological data.
- Develop generative models of individual multisensory integration.
- Evaluate whether the models generalise to new sensory conditions and can generate effective interaction strategies.
- Publish findings at the intersection of AI, perception, XR, and universal design.
We are looking for a candidate who
- has a strong background in machine learning, computational perception, XR, HCI, cognitive science, or a related field;
- has programming experience and an interest in experimental studies with human participants; and
- can work independently and collaborate across AI, perception, and interaction design disciplines.
Assessment
Applicants will be assessed based on qualifications, relevant experience, motivation, and project fit.
