Job Description

Research Fellow in 6G Wireless Communications Coding and Standardisations (EPSRC)

Department: Electronic & Electrical Engineering

Reports to

Prof. Kai-Kit Wong Funding

The role is available immediately for 12 months initially. Further funding to support the post may be available.

Context

The UCL Electronic and Electrical Engineering Department invites applications for one (1) postdoctoral research position in 6G wireless communications technologies.

The successful candidate will work on the EPSRC project, reconfigurable intelligent surface for 6G.

Grade: 7

Location: Hybrid working / London Bloomsbury Fluid antenna system synergises This project builds upon the pioneering effort of the investigators on fluid antenna systems - an entirely new antenna concept that permits extraordinary reconfigurability that can be translated into enormous capacity and reliability gains for mobile communication systems and aims to tackle the fundamental challenges in terms of design and optimisation and performance analysis for unleashing the great potential of fluid antennas for 6G mobile communications.

We are looking for a talented postdoctoral researcher to join our team and help us fulfil the project’s goals, producing quality research. The researcher should have strong background in optimisation for Fluid Antenna Systems (FAS). Experience in physical layer security and covert communications is also essential. A strong background in wireless communication system and optimisation techniques is also important. Knowledge in integrating FAS with other promising 6G technologies, as well as in evaluating and validating hardware measurement data in wireless channels and systems is also desirable.

The work will assist in integrating FAS into the current emerging technologies such as RIS (reconfigurable intelligent surfaces). The successful candidate will work within an established research team led by Prof. Kai-Kit Wong.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Undertaking research, design and development in the design of 6G fluid antenna communication systems. This will involve new fundamental transceiver design and analysis by developing optimisation algorithms in the context of fluid antenna communications systems.
  • To participate in the design, performance optimisation, evaluation communications systems using fluid antenna technologies as described above and according to the work packages of the associated EPSRC project. The following areas are of particular importance in this project: o O ptimisation algorithms design for fluid antenna communication systems; o Integration of FAS into physical layer security and covert communications; o FAS synergises with other promising 6G technologies such as RIS, ISAC, and nextgeneration multiple access.

o Integration of FAS hardware measurement data into wireless channels and systems for performance evaluation and validation

  • To lead the drafting and submitting of papers to top international Journals and conferences.
  • Presenting the research at international conferences and project meetings, and contributing to technical reports.
  • To contribute to the overall activities of the research team and department as required. To contribute to the induction and direction of other research staff and students as requested.

General

  • Takes responsibility to carry out duties in a way that embodies UCL's environmental and social sustainability values, actively supporting within the remit of their role.

, and validation of wireless

UCL's Sustainability Strategy, policies and objectives

  • Carry out any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the line manager.
  • This job description may be reviewed and be subject to amendment in consultation with the post holder.
