About this position
About the role
Imperial College London is seeking to appoint an outstanding Academic in Spatial Proteomics within the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI). Applications are welcomed from candidates suitable for appointment at Assistant, Associate or full Professor level, commensurate with experience and achievement. The successful candidate will establish and lead an internationally competitive research programme applying advanced spatial proteomics and imaging technologies to cardiovascular and respiratory disease
This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of spatial biology within one of the world's leading centres for cardiovascular and respiratory research. The appointee will play a central role in advancing the NHLI's strategic ambitions in spatial biology, contributing to the development of a newly established Spatial Biology Hub and generating fundamental insights into disease mechanisms with the potential to transform patient care. Supported by significant recent investment in infrastructure, equipment and personnel, the successful candidate will join the Institute at a pivotal moment of growth and ambition.
The appointee will lead an ambitious research programme spanning cardiovascular and respiratory disease, including the application of spatial proteomics at subcellular resolution in human tissues. They will develop new spatial biology technologies and methodologies, support collaborative projects addressing high-impact biological questions, and horizon-scan emerging approaches in this rapidly developing field. Furthermore, the successful candidate will foster scientific collaborations within Imperial and with other leading academic and commercial organisations, secure external research funding, publish work of international quality, and supervise and mentor research staff and students. They will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education and play an active role in the academic leadership and wider strategic development of NHLI and the Faculty of Medicine.
Candidates will hold a PhD in spatial proteomics or a related field and bring a strong national or international reputation in the discipline. They will demonstrate an excellent publication record, experience of developing and leading research programmes, success in attracting external funding, and a coherent and sustainable vision for research that strengthens NHLI’s scientific priorities.
