About this position
Pump-probe optical and terahertz spectroscopy on dynamics of excitons and charge carriers in 2D materials for single-photon emitters.
Job description
The ultimate aim of the project is to develop defect-based single-photon emitters in 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) for quantum photonic applications. The project is a collaboration with two PhD students at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) where samples and photonic devices will be prepared.
You will perform fundamental studies on the formation, motion and decay dynamics of photogenerated charge carriers and excitons. For single-photon emitters these species need to travel to intentionally created defects sites in the materials, such as atomic vacancies and local strain.
You use ultrafast pump-probe laser spectroscopy with optical (TA, PL) and terahertz conductivity detection to monitor the charge and exciton dynamics and the formation of excitons at the defects where they should decay by single-photon emission.
Depending on your experience and interests involvement in computational modelling (DFT/GW/BSE) of charge carriers and excitons is an option.
This fundamental project will be in collaboration with two industrial partners, Toyota Motor Europe and Quix, the latter being a leading photonic quantum computing startup providing photonic integrated circuits (PICs).
Job requirements
- You have a relevant university degree in physics, materials science or chemistry and experience with ultrafast pump-probe laser spectroscopy.
- PhD degree, experience with ultrafast laser spectroscopy.
