About this position

Join us and shape the quantum devices of tomorrow!

Job description

Join the Feld Group   at QuTech, where we are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to advance research at the intersection of quantum technologies, GPU acceleration, and high-performance computing.

Our team is working on enabling the next generation of tightly integrated quantum-classical computing systems, connecting advances in hardware with scalable software solutions for fault-tolerant quantum computing.

Our current research spans several exciting directions, and you will have the opportunity to contribute to all of them.

  • Low-Latency Quantum-Classical Integration: You will work with industrial partners such as Qblox to develop and benchmark low-latency GPU integration with quantum-control hardware.
  • Quantum Error Correction and Decoding: You will design and optimize GPU-accelerated decoding algorithms for quantum error correction, supporting the development of scalable fault-tolerant quantum computers.
  • GPU-Enabled Quantum Software: You will contribute to hardware-aware quantum software and high-performance computing solutions for next-generation quantum-classical systems.
  • Quantum Compilation and Hardware-Aware Optimization: You will develop and evaluate compilation methods for emerging quantum architectures, with a focus on mapping, routing, and hardware-aware optimization for scalable and fault-tolerant quantum systems.
  • Reliable and Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing: You will investigate methods for improving the reliability and scalability of quantum computations, spanning fault-tolerant execution, hardware-software co-design, and advanced techniques for quantum error correction, including ASIC-based decoding.

Although this position has a strong focus on systems and software, it will be closely intertwined with collaborations across QuTech, TU Delft, and industrial partners. This collaborative approach ensures that your work has a direct impact on the development of next-generation quantum computing technologies. Finally, you will join a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive team where diverse perspectives are valued.

Requirements

  • You hold a PhD in computer science, physics, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field at the start of the position.
  • You have experience with GPU programming and high-performance computing, gained through research or industry projects. This may include areas such as CUDA, parallel computing, performance optimization, or systems software engineering. Experience with quantum computing is considered a plus, but extensive expertise in quantum error correction is not required.
  • You are motivated to tackle challenging research problems, enjoy working in multidisciplinary teams. You combine strong communication and collaboration skills with a proactive and curious mindset.
  • You are eager to contribute to the development of practical technologies for large-scale quantum computing and to collaborate with both academic and industrial partners.
